FAQ Answers

1) Does Sound Report Writer store old projects?
- Yes. All projects are saved by their project title and displayed by the title and date.

2) Can I share my PDF sound report?
- Yes. You can preview, print, email, archive in iBooks, or open in another app that can accept PDF files.

3) Can I start a new day of an existing project so I don't have to enter all the project info again?
- Yes. Just click on the '+' symbol in the top-right of the home screen and you will be prompted to create a new project or create a new project from a previous project. All the data fields will be copied except for the date, which is automatically updated to the current date.

4) Can I add custom fields in the project info section?
- Yes. From the main screen, go to 'Settings-->Edit PDF Fields', scroll to the bottom and click on 'Add Project Field'. You can also set the field type (numbers, letters, date, etc.). Move the fields up or down using the 'Edit' button on this screen.

5) How many tracks does Sound Report Writer support?
- On iOS: 1-16. On Android: Unlimited, but it gets to be super small once you get over 16 tracks.

6) What devices can I use Sound Report Writer on?
- Sound Report Writer is released in the Apple App Store and the Android Market. It is compatible with iPhone 3G2, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and all iPads. Requires iOS 3.2 or later. Also available on 1015 different Android devices and configurations. Requires Android 1.6 or later.

7) Can I jam timecode from an external source?
- No. As of Sound Report Writer v1.3 you are not able to jam an external source. This feature is in development and will be available as an in-app purchase. Completion and release is set for mid-February 2012. In the meantime, your best bet is to sync the 24hr run time on your recording device to your iDevice clock for second-accurate logging purposes. There will never be the ability to automatically log the timecode when you hit record on your recording device.

8) How do I get a refund?
- Apple has a strict no-refund policy. There are only a few instances that they claim they will allow a refund to take place. For instance, if your app will not run on your device when the description clearly states that it will, then you will be entitled to a refund. There are only a couple technical issues that they will approve a refund. Please refer to Apple's 'Payments, Taxes, and Refund Policy' found here. You can use the Android version for 15 minutes and still have to opportunity to cancel the download and receive your money back.

9) What is the difference between Sound Report Writer and Wave Agent?
- Wave Agent is a piece of software made by Sound Devices, the manufacturer of some popular digital audio recorders and mixers. It is only for use on a laptop or desktop computer. As it relates to sound reports, Wave Agent will read all the metadata that is entered on the recorder and allow you to spit that out as a customized PDF sound report. It will not allow you to generate data. It also does not log ‘left’ or ‘right’ track assignments, if needed. Sound Report Writer for iOS and Android is able to generate all this data on your mobile device while in the field. It’s especially useful if you don’t have a CL-WiFi unit for your 788T and/or keyboard to enter metadata in an efficient manner, or even more so if you aren’t able to enter any metadata into your recorder whatsoever.

10) How do I make my custom filename?
- It's easy. Open the app and go to 'Settings>Edit File Naming Formula' and turn on the parts you'd like to use for your formula. Then tap 'Edit' in the top right to rearrange each field. For example, if you have a Zaxcom Deva then you'll want to turn on 'Roll' and 'Segment,' make sure the other fields are 'OFF' and move 'Roll' above 'Segment.' Then go to the bottom and make sure you are using 3 digits in your segment format. Or if you have a Sound Devices 788T and want to use the default naming system, you'll need to turn on 'Scene' and 'Take.' Then create a custom character for the letter 'T' that appears in between scene and take by tapping 'Add Custom Character' and naming it in 'Field Name' and type the actual character you'd like to use. In this case, type the letter 'T' in the 'Character' field. Make sure it is 'ON' and move it in between 'Scene' and 'Take.' The options are limitless.

11) How do I delete a stored track name?
- Track names are stored per project. If you create a new project, you will have a blank slate of names. When you create a 'From Previous Project' the track names will carry over from the selected project, along with the other project info (Project Name, Sound Mixer, Contact Info, Frame Rate, etc.). Once you name a track, it is stored in the database for all future takes in that project. To delete the track name, you must delete all occurences of that name. If the stored name is in 1 take, then just delete once by tapping the 'X' to the right of the name. If it's in 10 takes, delete it 10 times. Once the name is fully extinguished, it will not appear in the scrolling pop-up list.

12) Why aren't my attachments sending when I export?
- The most likely cause of this is you are using characters that are invalid on most operating systems. Check your project name and date to see if you are using the characters / ? < > \ : * | ” and any other unique character you can type with the Ctrl key on a Windows keyboard.
